Directory Listing
Is it worth the time and effort to list your site in directories?
The main directories, Yahoo, LookSmart and the Open Directory project are totally different to search engines like Google or AltaVista. Directories do not index or crawl pages, they are an orderly collection of categorized links. With these directories every submission is reviewed by a human editor and either accepted or rejected.
It is worth the effort to be listed in the directories because they can drive traffic to your site, either directly (Yahoo is one of the most used “searches” on the web) or indirectly - LookSmart and the Open Directory feed results to search engines like AOL and MSN.
